TREK!!!

Last week Jonathan and I went on the "trek" for our stake. For those of you who don't know what trek is: Trek is a "camp" where youth go push handcarts and do thinks that pioneers would have done crossing the plains. (nutshell) I would have liked to take more pictures, but I was too busy trying to remember to breath. Yes, It was A LOT harder than I thought, and no, I didn't prepare like I should have!

We started out at a service project for the American West Heritage Center in Wellsville, Utah. (home again, home again, well, withing 5 miles anyway). Our "company's" job was to weed the garden. Which, once we found out what everyone elses job was, we were grateful, because we got to sample some of the veggies and fruit. Others were weeding the pumpkin patch, no samples there!


We then set out on the trek. This is our families flag.

Hot it was, Cold it was and BEAUTIFUL it was!!!

Chili! MMMMMMM. The best meal we had for four days!

The first night of trek. We got a message from "Porter Rockwell". The army is coming. We needed to move out. So at about sunset, we packed up our camp and headed out for about 3 hours. this is lights from the company about 1/2 mile behind us. If you can tell, they are a ways down, which means, we were CLIMBING most of the time.

For one of the morning "DEVOTIONALS" we were on the side of a hill. We took over the home of some grasshoppers, so they found a new home on us!

These are the girls in our group. They were all awesome. This picture was taken at the start of the womens pull. Yes, we were happy. They do this pull in honor of Mary Fielding Smith. She was the wife of Hyrum Smith, who was the Brother of Joseph Smith. She was determined to go with the company to Zion. Her husband had just been Martyered. I donw that she had struggles, she had a young family, no help and 7 wagons that were part of her team. She overcame Much trial and tribulations. So the leaders wanted to show the girls, that they can do much with great faith.

This is a picture of the hill we had to climb. If you can't tell, that last hill is about strait up. It was honesly the hardest thing I've EVER done. My husband asked if it was harder than child birth. My answer is this: YES. For Childbirth, I had pain pills.

The people who run the trek have billy goats that followed us everywhere. We gave Baby Beans a ride on one!

We got to trek through dust and MUD. up to our knees. Many shoes were lost in this mud pit!

We had to rest whenever we could!

And yes, we tied the kids up like horses to pull the handcarts!

Some have asked me if I had fun. The answer to that was NO. It was seriously the hardest thing I've ever done before. But I would definately do it again. It was one of the best experiences of my life~
